The Giants Have Never Been Bigger

There is an Autumn  to every year before the cold winds of winter blow across the land. The sun shines less, and trees become dormant. Although some are evergreen, most trees lose their leaves and in their barren state appear to be dead. But there is still life inside them, and as long as there is life there is hope! There is a stillness in the winter months, but if you look closely you still see signs of life everywhere. 

It will be that way for the Body of Christ. I see trees as a symbol of God’s people. The fig tree represents Israel and the olive tree all of God’s people, including those who were once gentiles. Keeping this imagery in mind, review the previous paragraph and consider what the winter of God’s people will be like. 

Are the end times a period for mourning or rejoicing? I imagine that many of us may look at it as Jesus viewed the cross in that garden the night before He was crucified. Like Y’shua, we may ask God to take this cup away from us, but may we never forget why we are here or shy away from who we are called to be.

I remember reading once that the Body of Christ never grew so fast as when it was watered in the blood of martyrs. I can’t say that I loved reading that, yet I can’t say it isn’t true either. I’m not so mature a believer that I immediately think: “Thank you, Lord, for finding me worthy to suffer!”. No, I am more likely to ask God to take away the discomfort than to lean into it with a renewed sense of purpose. I’ve had it too easy.

And now, I look at the world and the giants have never seemed bigger. The powerful coalitions of education, entertainment, mainstream news, big business, big tech and deep state governments seem invulnerable to assault. The plans of globalists are reaching fruition, and it appears that the world as they envisioned it is almost within their grasp. But I look to Scripture, and I know that in the end, I will join Christ in the final victory. I look to Scripture, and I see that the wicked will not prevail. It’s a message throughout the Bible, but nowhere is this more clear than in Psalm 37: 

1 Do not be preoccupied with evildoers. Do not envy those who do wicked things.

2 They will quickly dry up like grass and wither away like green plants.

3 Trust the Lord, and do good things. Live in the land, and practice being faithful.

4 Be happy with the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Entrust your ways to the Lord. Trust him, and he will act on your behalf.

6 He will make your righteousness shine like a light, your just cause like the noonday sun.

7 Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. Do not be preoccupied with an evildoer who succeeds in his way when he carries out his schemes.

8 Let go of anger, and leave rage behind. Do not be preoccupied. It only leads to evil.

9 Evildoers will be cut off from their inheritance, but those who wait with hope for the Lord will inherit the land.

10 In a little while a wicked person will vanish. Then you can carefully examine where he was, but there will be no trace of him.

11 Oppressed people will inherit the land and will enjoy unlimited peace.

12 The wicked person plots against a righteous one and grits his teeth at him.

13 The Lord laughs at him because he has seen that his time is coming.

14 Wicked people pull out their swords and bend their bows to kill oppressed and needy people, to slaughter those who are decent.

15 But their own swords will pierce their hearts, and their bows will be broken.

16 The little that the righteous person has is better than the wealth of many wicked people.

18 The Lord knows the daily struggles of innocent people. Their inheritance will last forever.

19 They will not be put to shame in trying times. Even in times of famine they will be satisfied.

20 But wicked people will disappear. The Lord’s enemies will vanish like the best part of a meadow. They will vanish like smoke.

27 Avoid evil, do good, and live forever.

28 The Lord loves justice, and he will not abandon his godly ones. They will be kept safe forever, but the descendants of wicked people will be cut off.

32 The wicked person watches the righteous person and seeks to kill him.

33 But the Lord will not abandon him to the wicked person’s power or condemn him when he is brought to trial.

34 Wait with hope for the Lord, and follow his path, and he will honor you by giving you the land. When wicked people are cut off, you will see it.

39 The victory for righteous people comes from the Lord. He is their fortress in times of trouble.

40 The Lord helps them and rescues them. He rescues them from wicked people. He saves them because they have taken refuge in him.

The wicked are those who oppose God and His ways because they have placed themselves above God, and they believe they have no equal. The wicked actively seek to destroy God’s people and squash the worship of God by His people. In the context of our present times in America, I know that any apparent victory by the wicked is only momentary. We will see just how temporary as the months unfold. Yet we must remember that we struggle not against flesh and blood, but against Principalities. (Eph 6:12) We don’t know who may join us from the camp of the wicked, and so we must pray and act according, viewing every person as a captive of wrongful thinking.

I don’t know who will sit in the Oval Office on January 21st of 2021 or if that person will submit in their heart to God, but these next few months and years will not surprise God. He has a plan, and His plans for His people in this nation will surely come to pass. We have both the privilege and the weighty responsibility to join Him in the work He is doing, and we do that by waging war against every lie, half-truth, and exaggeration that the wicked employ against us for the glory of God and advancement of His Kingdom. 

Of course we are human, but we don’t fight like humans. The weapons we use in our fight are not made by humans. Rather, they are powerful weapons from God. With them we destroy people’s defenses, that is, their arguments and all their intellectual arrogance that oppose the knowledge of God. We take every thought captive so that it is obedient to Christ. We are ready to punish every act of disobedience when you have become completely obedient. 

~ 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

When David saw Goliath taunting God’s people, he did not cower in fear like his older brothers or the rest of Israel’s army. Instead, he asked: “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should challenge the army of the living God?” He did not let his lack of combat training discourage him from confronting the giant, and he did not pick up the weapons of others that he had never practiced using. Rather, he proclaimed: “The whole world will know that Israel has a God. Then everyone gathered here will know that the Lord can save without sword or spear, because the Lord determines every battle’s outcome. He will hand all of you over to us.” David was not wrong. He saw by faith what the world could not see, and he destroyed a giant that emboldened Israel’s warriors to defeat an army that day. 

The giants have never been bigger than today, and the forces assembled against us have never been more numerous. But our God is the same today as He was for David: invincible, almighty, all-knowing, benevolent King of the Universe, who told us about the end from the beginning in His Holy Word.
